In this presentation the co-convenors of the Military History Evening, Larry Scott and Chris Roe, will join for a discussion on the most iconic naval engagement of the Great War. This fast moving, dynamic but ultimately indecisive battle saw the British Grand Fleet and the German High Seas Fleet both flirt with extreme danger over a quite lengthy period as hundreds of ships manoeuvred within the limited confines of the North Sea seeking the final, decisive engagement that the ardent supporters of the ‘big gun battleship’ had foretold for years. With Larry looking from the Grand Fleet’s viewpoint, and Chris from that of the High Seas Fleet, they will briefly chart how a complex operation unfolded, considering how it was that this engagement came to…
